Seeing Zacchaeus

How easy it is to look at another human being and pass judgement on them! We know exactly why they do things and we even see their final end. But now turn your sight to something else: your own heart. Do you understand why you do things? If you do, you are much greater than St. Paul who said, “What I do, I do not understand.” If it is so difficult to judge our own hearts which are so close to us, why do we think we can judge the secret hearts of others? Only God can do that. And when Jesus looks at Zacchaeus and knows all that we do and more, he sees a heart capable of repentance.
