is Jesus a thief? Well no, because everything belongs to him. But he is someone who is coming to collect all who are waiting for him.

“Even so, on the outside you appear righteous, but inside you are filled with hypocrisy and evildoing.”

Jesus is the one who sees below the surface. He can not be fooled by a tidy-looking outside if the inside is a mess. But for this reason, he can also see our struggles and come to our aid when we fall.

When his disciples heard about it, they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.

Jesus is the one who is never absent even when it seems like it. He lives in all that is good and true and he gives us the courage to live in goodness and truth.

Jesus said, “You lock the Kingdom of heaven before men.”

Jesus is the gateway into Heaven. He is the way into life. He does not want any of us to lock the way or prevent others from entering into the Kingdom.

Jesus is the Christ. That means he is anointed by his Father and this anointing is the Holy Spirit. Therefore the name of Christ reminds us of the Holy Trinity.

“The greatest among you must be your servant.”

Jesus is our Servant. Did you ever think of that? He came to serve us, to help us. He is the greatest and so he serves. He humbled himself the most and he is the most exalted.

“You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Jesus is Divine Wisdom. We can receive from him all the answers that we need in order to live as children of God.

“Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree.”

Jesus is Someone who knows us. Even before we know him, he knows us. And all through our lives, he is waiting for us to “come and see”.

“Are you envious because I am generous?”

Jesus is generous. He is willing to give himself as a reward to all those who answer his call to come and work in his vineyard.

“For men this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.”

Jesus is the one who makes all things possible. If we are united to Jesus, we are able to do amazing things.

August 21, 2023 Monday

Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

Mt 19:16-22

Jesus is our guide. He guides us step by step to do good and to give up the things that keep us from following him. As long as we follow in his footsteps, we are on the right path.

At that time, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a Canaanite woman of that district came and called out, “Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David!”

Jesus is a Traveler. Not only did he come down from Heaven and return there but all during his life he moved about from one place to another seeking the lost. And by seeking the lost, the lost could seek him too.

“Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Mt 19:13-15

Jesus belongs to children. Children are drawn towards Jesus because they are drawn towards love and goodness. Jesus has all that they need.

“But from the beginning it was not so.”

Mt 19:3-12

Jesus is the Beginning. He knows how all things were meant to be. He has shown us the path of perfection and love from the Beginning to the End.

August 17, 2023 Thursday

Moved with compassion the master of that servant let him go and forgave him the loan.

Mt 18:21–19:1

Jesus is forgiving. If a person goes to Jesus carrying a huge burden of sin, Jesus takes it all away. He gives us his gift of forgiveness. We don’t have to pay for this gift but we do have to pass it on to everyone who needs it.

“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”

Jesus is God with us. And God wants us to be united in prayer and praise. When we are joined together, Jesus is with us in a special way.

“And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.”

Lk 1:39-56

Jesus is the one who brings joy. When we recognize his presence hidden in his Mother, or the saints, or his creation, or deep within our souls, we are filled with joy and we sing a song of praise.

“Give that to them for me and for you.”

Jesus is united to us in everything we do. He wants us to include him in every aspect of our lives.

Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught Peter.

Jesus is real. He is not a ghost. Even though he has amazing powers, he also has real flesh and real blood. His hand which is both divine and human is stretched out to save us.

Jesus understands our needs. He knows where we lack wholeness and why we are so weak. And he knows how to help us if we come to him.

“For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”

Mt 16:24-28

Jesus is worth more than your life. When you give your life in exchange for his, you are the winner. But he is not the loser because he can multiply his gifts and never run dry.

Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will preserve it for eternal life.

Jn 12:24-26

Jesus is the one to serve. If we don’t serve Jesus with our lives, our lives are empty and meaningless. But if we serve him, then we are united to him and we bear fruit.

“O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.”

Jesus is Someone who strengthens our faith. He waits for us to see him behind all things and to trust that where he is, everything good is waiting for us.

During the fourth watch of the night, he came toward them, walking on the sea.

Mt 14:22-36

Jesus is fully alive. He receives his life from his Father and refreshes it by deep prayer. He has power over water and storms. He has concern for all his friends and forgives them when they fall. He is so alive that healing flows out from him to those in need.

They all ate and were satisfied.

Jesus is the one who fills us. He is the only one who can bring us true happiness, peace, satisfaction, fullness of life. And he always has an abundance for everyone.

August 6, 2023 Transfiguration Sunday

“Lord, it is good that we are here.”

Jesus is our best companion. It is good to be here, wherever here is, as long as it is with him. Because where Jesus is, Heaven is.

Jesus is Someone who you can come to with your sorrows. The disciples told Jesus about John the Baptist. You can also tell him your needs, your joys, your struggles. He is interested in everything great or small that happens in your life.

Jesus came to his native place and taught the people in their synagogue.

Mt 13:54-58

Jesus is someone with a hometown. Even though Jesus is God, he was also born in a certain time and place. This can be a hard thing for people to accept if they do not understand Divine Love. God loves us and wants to be close to us.

August 3, 2023 Thursday

“Then every scribe who has been instructed in the Kingdom of heaven is like the head of a household who brings from his storeroom both the new and the old.”

Mt 13:47-53

Jesus is the head of our household. He knows what we need from his bountiful storeroom which is full of wonderful old things that we have forgotten and marvelous new surprises to bring us joy.

“The Kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.”

Mt 13:44-46

Jesus is joy. Every joy that we have, whether it is digging in the earth or finding something of great value, is a participation in the life of Jesus. But do we notice him hidden in every joy?

“He who sows good seed is the Son of Man”

Mt 13:36-43

Jesus sows good seed. He is the master of the field which is the world. Therefore he will take care of his field and bring a good harvest from it.
