Every day, we will post a few brief prayers inspired by the Liturgy of the Hours.
O Lord, open my lips. And my mouth shall declare your praise.
Psalm 136:1-9
O give thanks to the Lord for he is good, for his love endures for ever Give thanks to the God of gods for his love endures for ever Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his love endures for ever; who alone has wrought marvelous works, for his love endures for ever; whose wisdom it was made the skies, for his love endures for ever; who fixed the earth firmly on the seas, for his love endures for ever. It was he who made the great lights, for his love endures for ever; the sun to rule in the day, for his love endures for ever; the moon and the stars in the night, for his love endures for ever.
Reading: From the autobiography of St. Therese
When I had looked upon the mystical body of the Church, I recognized myself in none of the members which Saint Paul described, and what is more, I desired to distinguish myself more favorably within the whole body. Love appeared to me to be the hinge for my vocation. Indeed I knew that the Church had a body composed of various members, but in this body the necessary and more noble member was not lacking; I knew that the Church had a heart and that such a heart appeared to be aflame with love. I knew that one love drove the members of the Church to action, that if this love were extinguished, the apostles would have proclaimed the Gospel no longer, the martyrs would have shed their blood no more. I saw and realized that love is everything, that this same love embraces every time and place. In one word, that love is everlasting.
The Canticle of Mary
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, My spirit rejoices in God, my Savior for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name.
Intercessions
Give us a childlike spirit. Come, Lord Jesus! Let our souls be in your peace. Come, Lord Jesus! Fill our hearts with your love. Come, Lord Jesus!
Dear Father, As you filled St. Therese with a child-like spirit, watch over all your children and draw us into your love. We ask this through Jesus your Son in union with the Holy Spirit. Amen.
