So speak and so act as people who will be judged by the law of freedom. For the judgment is merciless to one who has not shown mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment.
James 2:12-13
What is Divine Mercy? It is power reaching down to weakness, it is existence coming to bring life to nothingness, it is love forgiving the unforgivable. We who are weak sinners incapable of doing anything have been freed and brought into the Kingdom of God not because of any good thing that we have done but because Jesus Christ loves to show mercy on the undeserving.
So what do we do? How do we participate in Divine Mercy? How do we come to the fountain of forgiveness?
St. James talks about the law of freedom. In chapter one of his letter, he even calls it the perfect law of freedom. He writes:
Be doers of the word and not hearers only, deluding yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his own face in a mirror. He sees himself, then goes off and promptly forgets what he looked like. But the one who peers into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres, and is not a hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, such a one shall be blessed in what he does.
James 1:22-25
When we look into the mirror what should we see? A loved sinner, a forgiven child of the Heavenly Father. When we remember who we are and what has been given to us freely, it will be easy to rejoice and pray from the heart, “Father forgive them too. For none of us know what we do.” And our Father seeing the heart of Jesus in us, will forgive our sins and have mercy on the whole world.
