April 13 2022 Daily Prayer

Every day, we will post a few brief prayers inspired by the Liturgy of the Hours.

O Lord, open my lips. And my mouth shall declare your praise.

Psalm 55:1-5, 12-14, 16-17, 22, 23c

O God, listen to my prayer,
do not hide from my pleading,
attend to me and reply;
with my cares, I cannot rest.

I tremble at the shouts of the foe,
at the cries of the wicked;
for they bring down evil upon me.
They assail me with fury.

My heart is stricken within me,
death's terror is on me,
trembling and fear fall upon me
and horror overwhelms me.

If this had been done by an enemy
I could bear his taunts.
If a rival had risen against me,
I could hide from him.

But it is you, my own companion,
my intimate friend!
How close was the friendship between us.
We talked together in harmony
in the house of God.

As for me, I will cry to God
and the Lord will save me.
Evening, morning and at noon
I will cry and lament.

Entrust your cares to the Lord
and he will support you.
He will never allow
the just man to stumble.

O Lord, I will trust in you.

Reading: Isaiah 50:4b-7

The Lord God opens my ear that I may hear;
And I have not rebelled,
have not turned back.
I gave my back to those who beat me,
my cheeks to those who plucked my beard;
My face I did not shield
from buffets and spitting.
The Lord God is my help,
therefore I am not disgraced;
I have set my face like flint,
knowing that I shall not be put to shame.

The Canticle of Mary

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
My spirit rejoices in God, my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.

Intercessions

By dying Jesus destroyed our death. Let us pray to him:
Help us to show your face to the world,
Sanctify your people!
Give us a deeper understanding of your Passion,
Sanctify your people!
May the dead enter your Kingdom,
Sanctify your people!
Heavenly Father,
We praise you for your plan for our salvation. You did not spare your own Son but delivered him up for us. May we always rejoice to be your children. We ask this through Jesus your Son who lives with you and the Holy Spirit forever. Amen.
