May 19 2024 Daily Prayer

Every day, we will post a few brief prayers inspired by the Liturgy of the Hours.

O Lord, open my lips. And my mouth shall declare your praise.
Antiphon: Lord send forth your Spirit, Alleluia!

Psalm 104:30-35

You send forth your spirit, they are created;
and you renew the face of the earth.

May the glory of the Lord last forever!
May the Lord rejoice in his works!
He looks on the earth and it trembles;
the mountains send forth smoke at his touch.

I will sing to the Lord all my life,
make music to my God while I live.
May my thoughts be pleasing to him.
I find my joy in the Lord.
Let sinners vanish from the earth
and the wicked exist no more.

Bless the Lord, my soul.
Antiphon: Lord send forth your Spirit, Alleluia!

Reading: Romans 8:9-11, 26-27

But you are not in the flesh; you are in the spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in you. If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. If Christ is in you the body is dead because of sin, while the spirit lives because of justice. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, then he who raised Christ from the dead will bring your mortal bodies to life also, through his Spirit dwelling in you.

The Spirit too helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we ought; but the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in speech. He who searches hearts knows what the Spirit means, for the Spirit intercedes for the saints as God himself wills.

The Canticle of Mary

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children for ever.

Intercessions

Come, Holy Spirit, descend upon your Church anew and hear us as we pray:
You desire the unity of all Christians.
Come, Holy Spirit, and make us all one!
You desire to fill the whole world.
Come, Holy Spirit, and bring us your peace!
You make all things new.
Come, Holy Spirit, and heal the sick, comfort the distressed, and give salvation to all!
Heavenly Father, from whom every good gift comes, send your Holy Spirit into our lives that we may sing your praise, proclaim your peace, and announce the truth that Jesus is Lord who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit one God for ever and ever. Amen.
