Leader: O Lord, open my lips. All: And my mouth shall declare your praise.
Psalm 126
Antiphon: The Lord said to Simon: There is no need to be afraid; from now on you will be a fisher of men.
When the Lord delivered Zion from bondage,
it seemed like a dream.
Then was our mouth filled with laughter,
on our lips there were songs.
The heathens themselves said: "What marvels
the Lord worked for them!"
What marvels the Lord worked for us!
Indeed we were glad.
Deliver us, O Lord, from our bondage
as streams in dry land.
Those who are sowing in tears
will sing when they reap.
They go out, they go out, full of tears,
carrying seed for the sowing:
they come back, they come back, full of song,
carrying their sheaves.
Glory to the Father...
Antiphon: The Lord said to Simon: There is no need to be afraid; from now on you will be a fisher of men.
Reading: From a sermon by St. Leo the Great
He continues: And I say to you. In other words, as my Father has revealed to you my godhead, so I in my turn make known to you your pre-eminence. You are Peter: though I am the inviolable rock, the cornerstone that makes both one, the foundation apart from which no one can lay any other, yet you also are a rock, for you are given solidity by my strength, so that which is my very own because of my power is common between us through your participation.
Pray either the Canticle of Zechariah or the Canticle of Mary. You can find them here.
Antiphon for the Canticle of Zechariah: The Lord said to Simon Peter: I have prayed for you, Peter, that your faith may not fail; and when you have turned to me, you must strengthen the faith of your brothers.
Antiphon for the Canticle of Mary: You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. How blessed are you, Simon Peter, for that witness.
Intercessions
My brothers, we build on the foundation of the apostles. Let us pray to our almighty Father for his holy people and say:
Be mindful of your Church, O Lord.
Father, you wanted your Son to be seen first by the apostles after the resurrection,
we ask you to make us his witnesses to the farthest corners of the world.
You sent your Son to preach the good news to the poor,
help us to preach this Gospel to every creature.
Prayer
All powerful Father,
you have built your Church
on the rock of St. Peter's confession of faith.
May nothing divide or weaken
our unity in faith and love.
Grant this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
