St. Gregory of Nyssa and Peace

Meditation two

What is peace? This is the second in a series of reflections on St. Gregory of Nyssa’s meditation about peace.

What does it mean that Jesus has put enmity to death? (Ephesians 2:16) What is enmity? Enmity is bitter feelings and hatred toward another person.

Since Jesus put it to death and we want to live like he did, we should never do anything to wake enmity back up again or let its fire burn in our hearts. Do not think of anyone as an enemy but as someone that Jesus came to save. Do not let evil feelings dwell in your heart and then come alive in your words and actions.

Jesus has broken down the wall that separated us from each other. He wants us to stop trying to build it back up again and to be at peace.
