St. John Vianney and Prayer
Meditation Six
What is prayer? St. John Vianney teaches us some powerful things about prayer. This is the sixth in a series of reflections on his instructions about prayer.
Is your heart divided? Do you seek God with all your heart or do you sometimes seek God and sometimes “Mammon”?
Our hearts are often divided into little pieces. We try many different ways of being happy. We also both love and hate with our hearts. St. James says that blessing and cursing should not come from the same mouth. And what comes from the mouth begins in the heart.
God wants our hearts to be whole so that there will be no division in us. When we pray we can do so with our whole hearts if we unite our hearts to God and to every person he has made.
“You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart… and your neighbor as yourself.”
