I found this grasshopper on one of our pepper plants. The best way to identify this species is the striking pattern on its legs. This grasshopper species can be many colors though they usually have the same pattern. Differential grasshoppers live almost everywhere in the US so you should be able to find some near you. They can be pests in the garden but are an important part of the backyard ecosystem. (As well as being fun to observe!)
