What’s In My Backyard?

Meet the Neighbors: Sutured Long-horned Beetle

For the introduction to this series, see here.

This bright red and black beetle loves to eat pollen. These beetles are easy to watch because they like to sit on big flat flowers and are slow-moving and not easily alarmed. They belong to the large family of long-horned beetles. Most of the beetles in this family have extremely long antennae. You can see from the pictures that Sutured Long-horned Beetles have antennae almost as long as their bodies. And their eyes actually wrap around the base of their antenna! How would you like to have immensely long antennae sticking out of your eyes?
